Not worrying if something is cool or even original, just draw. I think I filled the first book up in about 6 months. All pencil sketches and ink. I didn’t want to stop once I was done so I bought another identical sketchbook and decided to do these skulls with color. Which basically turned into mini paintings, but they all start with a drawing straight to the paper. No transfer of ideas from outside the book. No iPads. It took me a year to complete the color skulls.

The Book of Skoals is both sketchbooks, just as I painted them and in the same size as the originals.

I feel the ability to illustrate is important to finding any originality in tattooing.
