CANTO IV - Limbo

In Dante's journey through Hell, he is awakened by thunder and led by the poet Virgil. The first circle they enter is Limbo, where souls who were not baptized and those who lived before Christianity reside. These souls long for God's grace. In Limbo, Dante encounters the castle of human wisdom, surrounded by water representing worldly distractions. Inside, he meets famous philosophers and poets.
