CANTO XXI & XXII - Malebranche

Dante explores the fifth bolgia, where corrupt politicians, known as barrators, are punished. This bolgia is depicted as exceptionally dark, symbolizing the deceptive methods employed by its inhabitants. The poets encounter a ferocious devil carrying a damned soul, witnessing the brutal torment inflicted upon the sinner. They hide and negotiate safe passage with the devil's leader, Malacoda, who allows them to pass.
