As the poets reach the tenth bolgia, home to falsifiers, they find sinners suffering from repulsive illnesses that mirror their deceptive actions in life. They encounter two souls guilty of practicing alchemy, condemned by the church. These souls, like lepers, endlessly scratch at their scabs, plagued by an eternal itch.
